Task 6 - Draft Statement of Intent

Product 1: How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words).

For my music video I plan to use media language to create a narrative video which will have the perception of realisation, feelings and emotions. All these factors will appeal to my target audience as they are aged 15-30 and mostly young women and old women as they are interested into the stereotypically theme of love. The shots in the music video will relate to the theme of love/heartbroken which is typical form in where you see the theme being represented through different ways. I plan on showing this through emotions of the characters and showing soft environments and atmosphere by displaying fragile things such as flowers, views and nature. The narrative story that will be presented will just show instantly how this it is a typical R&B music video because most videos include a narrative or a theme of love. To achieve this result the mise-en-scene element of setting is where I will ensure it to be in different location suck as the park, restaurant and the city since these will display the characters to be going on a date where they move around to different places. I’m planning to have the characters dressed in casual and bold coloured clothes where they look relaxed yet sophisticated as the colours represent the young love.
I want my female character to have a bold eye look which stands out to match her outfit and also show how feminine she is. The way the character are presented shows the ups and downs of the relationships. You can see how this is presented through the behaviour of each character and how they change their attitudes immediately as soon as the female feels that she’s being ignored. You almost see an emotion of uncertainty in her, as her mood changes. Ultimately through the music video I want the audience to interpret the real message behind the narrative/ story line, as I want to convey that not all relationships are perfect and they are all a work in process. Both people need to work at it to make it work. I want the audience to take something positive out of this music video as it shows the importance of love and bonding, which both take time to merge together. I want them to feel the worth of love through this and realise how fortunate people are to have loved ones no matter what the relationship is. To get the music video populated into the media industries I would upload the video on YouTube and share it on social media platforms to reach to a wide amount of audience to reach many views.

Product 2: How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)

For my website I plan to have the typical  the media language code of the website design where  will ensure people will have the access to a menu bar where the audience can see any links to which they wish to access such as ‘music’ ‘tour’ ‘store’ gallery’ and ‘news’. This feature on the menu bar will also have links/names for social media accounts of the artists so they can be easily added or noted. I would also like include a comments section where the audience or fans and comment and interact with each there in a friendly platform with each other. I will ensure that the ‘news’ page is updated regularly but I also want to keep this on the front page if there is any new news or breaking new about the artist.

I also want the artist to leave a personal message for the audience so they feel connected to her and I want this to me on a separate page where the audience can see it of her writing and signature. Through the characteristics and personality of the artist I aim to represent the website which reflects the artist and some of the things of her life such as bts footage and some interviews and he daily life posts. I want the audience to feel connected to the artist as they get to know her more on a personal level than just a singer and I want this to be a positive element because the website is complete about giving back to the audience and if the website is not personal then I feel like it’s not fair on the audience.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)

A way to keep my products digitally convergent by is by publishing the video on the website and having a link to YouTube. I plan to keep updates on the website and some teaser videos for the music video that will be releasing soon. i will also embed the music video to make the website digitally convergent. The way she's represented throughout the music video is the same way she's represented in the music video too by her style of fashion.

      Gaming Industry - Henry Jenkins

      Henry Jenkins
      • He is an influential media theorist.
      • Interested in the online world - media 2.0
      • Since the emergence of the internet as a participatory, interactive medium, there has been a great deal of writing about how this has transformed audiences, institutions and the nature of media products.
      • Jenkins looks at many areas, but for this topic, his 1992 book Textual Poachers: Television Fans and Participatory Culture is particularly important.

      Media 2.0:
      • it refers to the way media has transgressed into a new realm of engagement.
      • the current state of the web, the new 'version' in comparison to what it used to be.
      • it now considers how the web allows.
      Textual Poachers:
      • Jenkins' research in Textual Poachers showed how fans construct their own culture by appropriating and remixing—"poaching"—content from mass culture.
      • Through this "poaching", the fans carried out such creative cultural activities as rethinking personal identity issues such as gender and sexuality; writing stories to shift focus onto a media "story world's" secondary characters; producing content to expand of the timelines of a story world; or filling in missing scenes in the story world's official narratives order to better satisfy the fan community

      Jenkins (inter) Active Audience Approach:
      • Jenkins belongs to a group of Media thinkers who are highly optimistic about the Media.
      • They view the Media, and Web 2.0 as empowering to the audience, breaking down traditional boundaries of class and status. The audience is interactive and powerful.
      • They can participate and create their own narratives, questioning messages and generating their own ideas.
      • Jenkins, Shirky and others clearly contrast with the more traditional media effects theory models, which see the media as powerful and the audience as passive.
      • Participatory Culture:
      • Jenkins noted that the development of “new” Media (roughly post 2000) has acceleratedparticipatory culture”, in which audiences are active and creative participants rather than passive consumers.
      • They create online communities, produce new creative forms, collaborate to solve problems, and shape the flow of media. This generates what Jenkins describes as “collective intelligence

      Key Terms
Fandom - refers to the social structures and cultural practices created by the most passionately engaged consumers of mass media properties.
Participatory culture - refers more broadly to any kind of cultural production which starts at the grassroots level and which is open to broad participation.

Web 2.0 - is a business model that sustains many web-based projects that rely on principles such as user-creation and moderation, social networking, and "crowdsourcing."
Fandoms - fandoms turns to a community where people share the same passions to things.

a way of marketing and distribution and new technology is the #wandanaforever on social media.

Gaming Industry - Cross platform Article

      Minecraft’s Cross Platform Article

      1. Give a definition of cross-platform gaming.

Cross platform gaming is a term used to describe the ability of a video game with an online gaming component that allows players using different video game hardware to play with each other simultaneously.

      2.    Why is Microsoft’s “Better Together” update so exciting for the gaming world?

It’s exciting because Microsoft can finally bring so many gaming platforms together with this update. As this is the first time a game has offered cross play across all these platforms with the addition of the Nintendo switch to the mix. Minecraft could be the one of the first true platform – agnostic titles which is something huge and exiting for the public. Microsoft is holding the standards high when they’re accomplishing seeing incredible like this, making it hard for other gaming companies to defeat them.

      3.    Why might there be concerns over online child protection?

Minecraft is a hugely popular game with children and players of all ages, but It gives children the opportunity for the first time to play on servers with mini-game worlds, where they will connect and play with other people from all over the globe. Which can be a cause of concern because children may not know who they will be playing with which can be unsafe for them hence is why, child protection is needed as its necessary to make sure they don’t engage with wrong people.

      4.   What is the future for cross-platform gaming, in your opinion? What are the pros and cons, for the games developers and the audience?

I think it’s just the stepping stone to start something like this. I do think will has quite a lot potential and success in it because it’s much easier to play.  I do think later on other gaming companies will also start to do this. It’s definitely a lot of work for game developers to do because they need to work extra hard to make the game work as it becomes a cross-platform game. They will also have a hard time trying to perfect the game according to the audience since the audience is quite huge. Of course, there many pros and cons with it but I feel like you can’t always please everyone if there is a game companies are passionate to make they should just go with it and keep the age rating suited for it.
